Scotch Broom & Friends

There are multiple aspects of taking care of Applegate Jesuit Retreat Center of the Sierra. A large part of what we do is making sure the grounds are well cared for. Today we had the opportunity to begin eliminating large thickets of invasive scotch broom. Our hope is to remove these non-native plants to lower fire risk, increase visibility around the site, and allow more traditional Californian plants a chance to thrive.

While we were maintaining physical distancing and working hard, we discovered some scaly friends in the process. This forrest alligator lizard was pretty small, but he had a big personality and let us get close enough for a photo.

Just another step in making sure Applegate Jesuit Retreat Center of the Sierra remains a safe, enjoyable place to visit when we host you again soon.
