Exciting Updates
Reforestation
The forest service of Placer County has received a grant to replant trees on the CGC Camp property after the devastating Mosquito Fire in 2022.
Plans are underway with ground preparation. The reforestation team found an archeological site right on CGC Camp property. The project is now on pause while the area is being looked into, but we don’t yet know exactly what has been discovered.
Once assessments have been made, the project will resume, and we are happy to report new trees will be supplied and planted. Go, Placer County!
Historic Old Tree
Our on-site staff decided to see how old one of the large fallen trees was (see image). After careful assessment, it was determined that this 100-foot Red Oak was approximately 500 years old, each color marker representing 50 years. This tree, which is estimated to be about 7 feet around the base, reveals only half of the trunk in the photo.
When this tree was in its infancy, life was different worldwide. These are some things that were happening as this sapling took root.
500 years ago:
The average lifespan of a human was 35 years of age.
There was no running water, indoor plumbing, electricity, air conditioning, telephones or other modern amenities.
Most people worked in agriculture or other manual labor jobs, with little time for leisure or education.
It was a time of exploration, with European powers venturing into new lands and expanding their empires.
